Bio

The Surfaris began their forty plus year career by recording Wipe Out, one of the most popular songs recorded in a generation.
Wipe Out, Surfer Joe and others captured the sound of the early 1960's. Initially catapulted by the California surf culture,
The Surfaris transcended the local scene into international stardom.

Since then, Bob, founder and original guitarist, continues to play the music and tell the amazing story behind the music of THE SURFARIS.

BOB: lead guitar

I was raised in Glendora, Ca. My parents always encouraged me to sing and play musical instruments and sports. At 8, I took some guitar lessons to learn to read music and was exposed to family and friends who played regularly at home/party get togethers. When I was 13 my family took a vacation to Hawaii; that is when I saw what I wanted to do. We went to a luau and a professional ukulele player performed. I fell in love with the music. The next day I saw him in the lobby of the hotel and asked him to pick out an instrument for me. He did and I practiced the ukulele all the way home on the SS Luraline ship for a week. From that moment I knew music was going to be an important part of my life forever. On that same Hawaiian trip, I learned to surf. Back in California, I soon found playing music and surfing to be an unbeatable combination. Two years later at 15 years old--Wipe Out was born.
